The year is 2025. As carbon-based life forms, we’re moving beyond a world where a wallet simply carries your cash, credit cards, crypto, ID, and a smattering of personal items. However, in many ways, many folks are still stuck in a financial-first mental model—as it relates to the concept of a wallet. But this is changing. And fast. Imagine a world where the wallet evolves beyond its traditional function and instead becomes a holistic operating system for your life—helping manage everything from your finances, of course… but also your health, your hobbies, your memories, your daily tasks, and so much more.
The sum of your identity.
The wallet of the future just might be the sum of your identity—powered by your life experiences. The best part? Your “life wallet” will be 100% unique to you. And what about your identity? Yep. Controlled by you. Because only you, are you. And that’s how it should be. Or at least we think so.
As evidence of this paradigm shift, according to Juniper Research, 60% of the global population will use digital wallets by 2026. Therefore, as countless aspects of our lives shift from the physical to the digital realm, including our identity, we believe the concept of a wallet will require a creative overhaul to meet the gravity of this moment. That’s precisely db clay’s reason for being as a Creative Research Lab. For us, it’s not just about adapting to new technologies such as AI, or blindly defaulting to digital-first solutions, but about enabling human-led experiences that resonate across contexts, cultures, and generations.
The following article explores our initial hypothesis, high-level vision, and WIP experience framework for reimagining the wallet experience. An experience at the intersection of PHYSICAL and DIGITAL—encircled by IDENTITY and UTILITY. A Life Operating System co-created by you, for you. Aka, “Your wallet for life.”
Our Working Hypothesis:
At db to the clay, we view the wallet as more than just a physical object in your pocket/purse or a digital application on your phone; we see its potential as a Life Operating System, or LifeOS, an everyday “companion” helping you navigate the complexities of daily life. We’ve been on this journey for nearly two decades, actually, our whole life. Our vision comes from a deep exploration of personal challenges and inspirations that fuel our creative process. For example, battles with anxiety, from childhood outbursts to adult over-analysis, has propelled us toward seeking order and simplicity. This quest eventually galvanized as the LifeOS concept back in the early aughts, aiming to turn chaos into clarity and the overwhelming into the under control. The wallet just happened to be the perfect vehicle.
As we navigate the future, the line between digital and physical realms blurs, presenting an opportunity to reimagine the wallet as an extension of our identity—a tool to streamline, organize, and optimize our daily routines and rituals. This reimagined wallet concept is not just about holding our things; it’s about holding together our lives in a coherent, fluid manner. It’s an invitation to view the wallet not merely as an accessory but as a central hub for managing life’s dynamism, tailored to meet the needs of diverse individuals across the globe. After all, wallets are not one size fits all. With more than 8 billion unique people in the world, theoretically, there are 8 billion unique wallet user profiles—at least. We must tailor our offering accordingly, for this, that, and every generation.

The gravity of this concept isn’t lost on us. And it certainly won’t be solved by one person, or one company alone. It will require a collective effort. Time, testing, resources, conviction. Agnosticism. As we’ve prototyped the potential of the LifeOS, we’ve organized our thinking around the Top 10 categories outlined below, each with its own set of “modules” designed to optimize different aspects of life, from camping to estate planning to investing to spiritual wellness and beyond. This journey is personal and ongoing, a testament to the evolving nature of how we interact with the world around us. Here’s a look at our Top 10 “Use Cases” for our LifeOS concept. Of course, this isn’t exhaustive—it’s a rough draft. Because again, everyone is unique and we’re just getting started. This is simply based on our limited experience and narrow vantage point. We are so excited to hear what other people have to say about it.
